Assignment #2

This picture shows Pocahontas getting between her fellow Indians to save John Smith. The picture is not accurate because first, she was only an eleven year old girl and second, she never had to physically get involved. Most people believe that this is what actually happened because of the Disney movie. The message is that she tried to save him, which is true. She just did not have to get in between as much as is portrayed in this picture.

  1. We will see some interesting (and totally misleading) pictures in the video about Pocahontas. The legend looms larger than the history.

  2. Disney does a very good job of putting the thought of John Smith and Pocahontas into the minds of young kids. I personally do not understand why they feel the need to change the story. Yes, it can be somewhat of a sad story, but if they felt the need to make a happy story, Disney could have made up their own story and not used well known names.

  3. Pocahontas is my favorite disney movie of all time. I don't see why they didn't have Pocahontas fall in love with John Rolfe in the first place. (They get married in the second Pocahontas movie, i think)
I did think that the movie did a good job showing Pocahontas's influence on her father, and that she was actually a really smart girl.
    But anyways, good blog Holly:)

  4. The exaggeration of Pocahontas is sure big. Disney is probably the worst, but even the picture you said was an exaggeration. She must just be a great character, and she does make a good story and love interest, but she is way blown out of proportion all over the place
